FEAR

HATE FEAR/FEAR HATE

REAL

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

how does your garden grow?.....

with nuts and bolts
and iron pipe..rebar
and steel plate....?

dh made this for me about 40 years ago
when we were newly married...what a guy, huh?

or...maybe with silverplate...
along w/copper and brass
wire...?

still making things..with a little prompting
from me...all these years later....so...i'll say
it again...
what a guy, huh?.....

finally decided to take trip to anthropologie
yesterday....especially after looking at 52 Flea.....
and her pictures from there...
oh my!.....will take some
pics of what i got for a later post...but
what displays....!!!  even dh was impressed....

hoping to find some more treasures today...
will keep you all posted....

but.....of course.....

found this sign at tj maxx
the other day and just knew
it had to come home w/ me...

well...isn't it the truth?

it certainly is in my family....

we are a family of animals....

we all believe just what  the sign says....

here we have dusty ..my little cairn terrier...

then ..luna..aka the cuz....who belongs
to my daughter...luna is always
very hungry...but..very proper..

next..come hannah and jasmine..
my son's two pups...
this photo was taken at my son's
wedding ..they were the most
beautiful bridesmaids ever...

i want you to know...that cats are
people too...
just because there is no sign as yet..
doesn't change a thing..
at least not in our family...

here are my daughter's cats...agnes
and hazel...

agnes is the most well traveled cat i have
ever had the pleasure to meet...

and, hazel....very sweet..but this picture
tells it all about our dear little
hazzie...

all our animals have been adopted....
they have added so much love
to our lives...

i need to mention that both luna and
hazel each only have one eye...
dana adopted them both in
new mexico.
each needed some extra special
care ..and, they certainly
have gotten it at dana's home..

david adopted jasmine in santa fe..too..
someone at the dog park put jazzie in the
palm of david's hand...and he immediately
fell in love....

i know you haven't forgotten that this blog
is named after..and...
dedicated to ....my little loves who
are waiting for me at rainbow bridge..
zoe and mr. nube...
who ..by the way..were also adopted...

remember to squeeze and hug those furry friends of yours
today...

thanks for stopping by...

be well.....

be careful what you ask for...

remember when i said yesterday..
that i would much prefer snow
to that dreaded cold and dreary
rain?

welp...the man above heard me...

we are in for some snow...how much..?
anyone's guess...as we have already decided..
mr. doppler isn't
all that reliable these days...

despite the snowfall.....
i will continue to wish upon the snow ladened  star
for spring to show up soon....go ahead..
click on the link..you'll enjoy it...

i have to admit ....the chair
 and
berries look really pretty
with the snow cover...

not sure
how the poor little flowers
feel about being
snow capped....

but..the front door gargoyle certainly  looks pretty
miffed about the whole thing...

however...i do think spring IS right around the corner as
i saw a big fat old robin red breast at the
bird feeder this morning....

didn't get my camera out fast enough to
capture him for you..but..he was there...
in full regalia...

think happy springtime thoughts..

thanks for stopping by...

be well...

rain rain ...go away...

it's very dreary here in
ct with a cold rain falling...
i think snow would be
prettier .....

i need to remember to
be careful what i ask for...

figures right by the front door
for several reasons.....

first...to greet everyone who
comes into our home...

and...secondly...to perk me
up when i look outside at
dreary weather...

we first saw these figures while
visiting dana when she was living
in santa fe....fell in love with them
immediately.....

i am edging up on their ages and i
so hope that my intentions of emulating
them emerge as planned...

i relate to everything about them...
from the sagging body parts...
to the look of contentment and
acceptance on their faces....

as i age....i try to find my beauty
from within.....hehe..mostly out
of necessity ...but also because
i am older and i am starting to
understand....

as one of my favorite mary engelbreit
cards says...
in youth we learn...in age we understand...

or not....

1920's leather and canvas boots.....teeny tiny once again.....

sweet little coated baby shoe......

copper/bronzed boy and girl baby shoes from
the 40s...
got these on etsy....seller said they
were hubby and wife's...aww...
just couldn't pass them up...
see the crown.?...

little leather children's shoes found in my in-laws' home
when we were getting it ready for sale....
always nice to have family pieces like
these....

speaking of boots...it's very rainy and dreary here
in ct today...could use a nice pair for walking
myself.........

all in the family.....

thought i would share a couple
more wedding dresses w/you today...

 my mother's wedding dress...

early 40s ecru silk satin....

sweetheart neckline...long pointed sleeves...

tiny covered buttons all the way down the
back..and..real ones...no snaps behind
these....

ruching on the bodice.....simply elegant...and...
once again...a teeny tiny waist.....

now here i am in the 90s when i first
opened fannie rose....

the same reporter who did an article on
came and did an article for
fannie rose's opening...

i am wearing a silk 1920's wedding dress...
along w/my catherine d's hat and
pearls...

let me say...1920s dresses in this
style ran large-ish  unlike most
period garb...
which enabled me to fit
into it...not sure i would
be able to today...nearly
20 years later...

well...that's the journey for today...

hoping to dig out some more
fashions to share w/you
all...

be well...

ruby ruby ruby will you be mine?......

ruby barker was my hubby's
maternal grandmother....

right after i opened fannie rose
which ...again...was
named after *my* two grandmothers..
my dear mil scrounged around
in her attic and came up w/her
mother's wedding dress...

it was stained and matted and somewhat
of a mess...

i soaked it..sunned it....soaked it and
sunned it again and again...and, it came
out perfectly....

i had it on the dress form for a very long time but
then decided i should keep it out of the sunlight
so the threads would stay strong...
so it is now packed away with many of
my other vintage dresses......

this reminds me that i should get some pictures taken
of all of them..too....

it was all hand sewn...

the waist measures about 18 inches...tiny
tiny people in those days....

pintucks ...inset lace...eyelet....

a delicate flounce at the bottom.....

almost ethereal in this picture.....

teeny tiny little buttons secure the back along w/some teeny tiny hooks and eyes
at the waistline....
a real work of art.....

ruby's sisters' names...were..
lily..pearl...diamond....what
a hoot......!

well..whatever the names...i am so
very thankful to have this dress...

ruby ruby ruby...will you be mine?
appropos, no?

just realizing that dion dimucci gave me lots of inspiration...
first runaround sue...and, now...
i'll have to leave him a thank you
on facebook....

if you click on the song names..you will
be able hear him sing the songs..
ain't technology grand?

be well....

change of plans...but ..not of heart.......

well, i was planning to go
treasure hunting yesterday...
but...i got a visit from my favorite
little guy and his dad..another of
my faves....and after picking
him up for a few hours.....he is getting soooooooooo
big and heavy...my back was
aching so i opted for staying
in.......

but today is another day...and..
treasure hunting it will be...

hope you find your hearts' desires today too...

be well....

spring is in the air...

even though the weatherman is
predicting more snow this
week...spring is definitely in the
air here in connecticut...

the birds are a-chirping...the
air smells and feels differently...

so...i decided to gussie up some
of my outdoor decorations to
herald in the springtime...

front door basket filled w/spring flowers

some forsythia ..or forcynthia as my daughter used to say....
to perk up this great shabby chair....

feather wreath ...weathered shutter..front yard tree....

hope you are thinking spring in your neck of the woods...

treasure hunting is on the agenda for me today...
you, too?

be well....

hats off to you....

i told you all how my collecting
journey started w/a hatpin and i
showed you that collection...

of events would be to then
start collecting hats...

and, boy did i!!!

the walls of my shoppe were
covered w/vintage hats...i will
try to dig up some photos of that
at some point and show it to you...

here are a few of the hats that
i took home w/me and have
displayed around my *nest*...

show you a few of the goodies i
*plan* on putting in my etsy
shoppe *soon*...plan and soon

i always have the best of intentions
but then something else just
steps right in front of me and
gets me distracted...
